A Team Effort for Celebration at Adam Smith College

/News Release Agency - CollegePressReleases.com/ 16 August 2010

Adam Smith College celebrated delivering its 25th Prince's Trust Team programme on Thursday 12 August at its St Brycedale Campus in Kirkcaldy.

Dr Craig Thomson, Principal, and Scott MacFarlane, Head of Programme for The Prince's Trust, were on hand to congratulate the young people on their achievements.

The Prince's Trust Team Programme is a 12 week personal development course designed to equip young people with improved skills and experience necessary for moving on to employment, education or volunteering.

During the nine year partnership, almost 300 young people have participated in The Prince's Trust Team Programme through Adam Smith College and, in the last year, three out of four of those who participated have moved on to a positive destination.

As part of the programme, students work on a number of community projects which bring benefits to the local area. In recent years projects have included Buckhaven Coastal Path as well as initiatives with Fife Gingerbread, Homestart and Sandy Brae Community Centre.

The celebration event at Adam Smith College falls in the same year that the Prince's Trust will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their team programme. In Scotland alone it has supported almost 12,000 young people in moving on to a positive destination and has worked on over 2,000 community based projects. Geraldine Gammell, Director of The Prince's Trust Scotland commented, “This is an outstanding achievement for the College, The Trust and our young people. This is a partnership we are very proud of and it has proven time and again to be hugely successful in changing lives. At a time when young people are amongst the most vulnerable group in our society, it has never been more important to celebrate the successes of these 25 teams, recognising their contribution to the community and their dedication to turning their lives around. I know that by continuing to work in partnership with Adam Smith College, our combined expertise will help an even greater number of young people to achieve their full potential.”

Dr Craig Thomson, Principal of Adam Smith College added: “It always gives me great pleasure to come along and meet our Prince's Trust students. The students not only inspire each other but give inspiration to our staff and indeed myself. Adam Smith College has worked hard over the years with The Prince's Trust to ensure we can provide this valuable programme for the local community. Delivering the Prince's Trust from our campus in Leven is one of our key commitments to enhancing opportunities for individuals in the Levenmouth area.”
