Tokheim's engineering manager Bryan Fotheringham, Product Leader Darren Anderson and Production Quality Leader Bob Justice gave the students a presentation on the company followed by a comprehensive tour of the manufacturing floor, highlighting all the operations involved in everything they do. The students were then given a talk about the processes involved from product concept and development to manufacture, essentially, operation management at its best, using project management skills from the PRINCE methodology and the use of Microsoft Project. The visit, which was organised by Ian Thomson, lecturer at Adam Smith College, reinforced the theory of the classroom environment and brought home the importance of key elements that need to be fully understood within the workplace. After an exchange of gifts, the visit was concluded by a lunch and a vote of thanks from the College to Bryan Fotheringham for the very kind gesture of allowing and organising the visit. David Astill, Director of International Business Development at Adam Smith College said, “The partnership with Harough Oil Company, is one of the many valuable relationships that Adam Smith College has with oil companies from around the world, with trainees coming to Scotland and staff going overseas to deliver training. We are delighted that Tokheim were able to provide this valuable learning experience for our students.” For more information on Operations Management or any other course available at Adam Smith College, please telephone the hotline on 0800 413 280.
